JOËL BASTARD, born in 1955 in Versailles, is a French poet, novelist, and playwright. He worked in various professions before dedicating himself fully to writing.
His preferred themes include nature, human relationships, and introspection.
His work comprises some fifty books, notably “Beule” (Gallimard, 2000), “Se dessine déjà” (Gallimard, 2002), and “Casaluna” (Gallimard, 2007).

Among his most recent publications are “Les couvertures contemporaines suivi de Le principe souterrain” (Gallimard, 2024) and “Filumena” (Belfond, 2024), a novel exploring memory and aging.

Joël Bastard also creates numerous artist's books in collaboration with visual artists and regularly participates in public readings, often accompanied by musicians.
He currently lives in the Dordogne region of France.

Inspired by the works of Bernard Alligand, the poet explores the fleeting nature of appearance and the tension between the ephemeral and the eternal. The poem speaks of the self's effacement in the face of matter, of the trace, of origin.
